The Sharjah International Book Fair 2025 opened with the aromas of the Mediterranean as Greek Chef Alexandros Sperxos led a live masterclass at the Cookery Corner, blending storytelling with culinary artistry. Sharing his 11-year journey in the UAE, Chef Sperxos highlighted how Greek cuisine’s soul lies in olive oil, passion, and love, connecting food to culture and emotion.
He presented a fusion dish, “Youvetsi Shakshuka,” a prawn and orzo creation merging Greek and Mediterranean-African flavours, symbolising both his heritage and the UAE’s focus on sustainability and local sourcing. His live cooking demonstrated layering flavours—sautéing onions, caramelising tomato paste, toasting orzo, and finishing with prawns, parsley, and feta.
Chef Sperxos celebrated the UAE’s multicultural spirit, saying, “I am proud to call it my home and connect with cultures from across the Arab world and beyond.”
